decided to create this great lake, the Cherokee Indians roamed, hunted and fished on the
shores of the Tugaloo and the upper Savannah Rivers. Today, visitors from around the
world come to explore Lake Hartwell. Whether you come in search of the "Big
One", an early morning ride across the mist covered lake, or a peaceful afternoon
gazing at the sunset shadowed by the Blue Ridge Mountains, a visit to Lake Hartwell will

hours from Atlanta, GA, 2 hours from Charlotte, NC, or 1 hour from Greenville,SC, Lake Hartwell
boasts nearly 56,000 acres of water, 962 miles of shoreline, and 80 public access
areas making it one of the easiest lakes in the nation to enjoy. Stretching 50 miles from
the foothills of the Appalachian mountains to the piedmont and the head of the Savannah
river, the diversity of Lake Hartwell offers something for everyone.
