| Boating:
Lake Hartwell's 56,000 acres provide plenty of area for all types of
boating. The wide expanse of water in the southern part of the lake is great
for sailing and windsurfing. In the northern portions hundreds of fingers
and coves provide protection for rowboats, canoes and kayaks. Water Skiing,
cruising and pontooning are popular everywhere on the lake. 80 Public boat ramps
make access easy. Rental boats are available. Permits/Licenses: No special license or permit is required for boating on Lake Hartwell. Boats must be licensed in their home state and must obey state boating laws. Children under 16 must wear a PFD. Navigation: The Corps of Engineers maintains navigation buoys throughout the lake as well as shoreline mileage markers. Hazards are generally well marked. Fish attractors are marked by buoys. |

Fishing: Georgia and South Carolina have a reciprocal license agreement; residents of both states can fish anywhere on Lake Hartwell with a license from their home state. Residents of other states must purchase a nonresident license. The most popular game fish caught at Lake Hartwell are: Crappie, Largemouth Bass, Hybrid Bass, Striped Bass, White Bass, and occasionally Walleye. The lake is suitable for bank and pier fishing as well as fishing from a boat. Fishing guides are available. |

Swimming: Lake Hartwell has 15 designated public swim beaches. There are hundreds of Island and shoreline beaches throughout the lake. Water temperatures may be suitable for swimming from May through October. There are no alligators, jellyfish, poisonous snakes or other unusual swimming hazards. |
